Koi Fish Images – 6 Tips To Get Better Photos   by Marshall Crum

Koi fish have become some of the most popular aquarium and pond ornamental fish in the world. More people are becoming koi owners every day and most of us want to show off our fish and document their growth. What better way to do it than by publishing pictures on the internet. This is especially true if you want to sell your fish or want to share your success.

What other uses do images have? Pictures to buy sell and trade fish over the internet since this can save a great deal of time and travel. Images of these beautiful fish work very well to show off the color and patterns of these fish. It is another way to exchange pond design and landscaping ideas.

But taking a picture of a swimming fish is not the easiest thing to do. It takes persistence, patience and a lot of shots to get the perfect shot. But here are some six pointers that will make it easier:

1. Set your shutter speed to maximum in order not to blur the pictures. It is like taking pictures of a sporting event. Things happen quickly and fish can move very fast. I recommend using a digital camera with high resolution and large storage.

2. Use a tripod whenever possible to avoid blurring the picture with the inevitable hand shake or moving the camera. I have ruined many perfect shots by moving the camera when I press the shutter.

3. Take as many shots as you can. If you have ever seen a professional take pictures, you will have noticed that he or she is constantly shooting and taking pictures from every angle. Most of your pictures will not be any good, but a few will and the one perfect picture you are looking for will be there.

4. Background is most important. You will not get good contrast if you take a picture of a dark fish against a dark background. Before you start taking pictures of your fish it may be necessary to change the color of the background to get the best contrast.

5. Show the scale of your fish. It may be necessary to use something (a ruler comes to mind) that will show the scale of your fish and document its growth over time. This really becomes necessary if you are selling your fish over the internet.

6. Preparation before you shoot your fish is key to getting good shots. You might consider putting the fish in a smaller pool or aquarium that has been prepared to show off its color and make it easier to get pictures from many different angles. This also makes it easier to use a tripod to get shots as the fish swims past the camera.

Taking pictures of your koi fish is not as easy as it looks, but if you want to show off your fish on a website or have an interest in selling them, it is absolutely necessary for you to learn how to get professional looking images.
